New Grammar of Living

New Grammar of Living (NGL) is a series of blogs covering a wide spectrum of subjects which began in 2010. These blogs were an expression of existential angst about the insane norms of modern society where all economies strove for mindless growth based upon high energy usage; and individuals, families and human groups were mired in conditioning based upon materialistic values resulting in mental illness, social violence. These led to ever increasing exploitation of the planet’s resources and environmental degradation post 1960s – peak of present civilisation.

Pradeep Das (Creator of NGL)

Passionate about existential and magic realism literature, psychoanalysis, art cinema, rock music, consequences of impact of economic, social and individual trends on environment and climate change. Writing a passion since college days during 1970s. Basically an economist with research and long-range planning background.

The inspiration for setting up this website came from the MAHB recently.
The Millennium Alliance for Humanity and the Biosphere (MAHB)

The Millennium Alliance for Humanity and the Biosphere’s mission is to foster, fuel and inspire a global dialogue on the threat of collapse and how interconnected biogeophysical and socio-economic systems contribute to, and are affected by, the existential threats faced by humanity.  The MAHB aims to develop and implement strategies for shifting human cultures and institutions towards practices that promote a future in which people can live peaceful and productive lives. By fostering collaboration among the millions of citizens, organizations and institutions who share our concern, we propose to grow a global network whose collective knowledge and energy can be harnessed to advance practices and norms that protect the integrity of future generations. Ministries of Climate set up in all countries. Climate police with orders to ensure that all climate laws are strictly implemented. Target of 350 CO2 ppm. A world where fossil fuel has been banned. Energy sources only from renewable sources like solar, wind, etc. Drastic reduction in energy use by 80%. Cars and other personal vehicles almost nonexistent. Working from home. Public transport running on electricity only mode of travel. Air travel reduced drastically by 90%. Only essential travel as certified by Climate Ministry eligible for flying. Radical restructuring of economies as all fossil fuel and related industries shut down. Surplus workers redeployed in retrofitting existing houses in order to make them habitable in the absence of fossil fuel heating and other transition activities. Air conditioning an essential service, which is shared with have nots. Universal basic income for the poorer sections ie bottom 50% of society. Yoga, Ayurveda for treating all physical and mental illnesses which will initially spike in view of the radical reforms. Yoga compulsory for all right from school in order to cope with the drastic changes in lifestyles. Other calming techniques. Ministry of Population in all countries. Innovative population reduction policies and plans with targets.

In view of the straitened circumstances, we find ourselves today where all the climate related parameters are far above safety levels. Hence paramount need for a Mission which can address firmly the runaway climate situation. The key planks of the Mission:

  • Endeavor for a soft landing for humanity
  • Help people, communities, institutions, business and governments restructure
  • Help set up easy to understand goals for implementation

  • Reduce CO2 emission to 10% by 2023
  • Internal combustion engine cars banned by 2022
  • Fossil fuel usage reduction to 10% by 2022
  • Cooling rights for all
  • Air travel reduction to 10% by 2021
  • Deurbanization of cities to 75% by 2025
  • Population control and reduction to reach 5 bn by 2050
  • Universal basic income for bottom 50% and those rendered unemployed by radical restructuring of carbon-based industries
